i'll eat you up, i love you so
I think I have figured out what I want to do with my personal Etching project.
I have been treating all of my etching stuff like it has to be absolutely perfect because the process of etching seems so permanent (at least in my mind it does) and because I am a student I have this sort of perception that everything I do outside of my sketchbook has to be a totally pristine, complete, finished project.
I don't think that is the point though, so with a little encouragement from a few people I know I have cut a few plates and just started to draw on them. I'm just drawing and I am just going with what comes out so let's hope that is a good thing!
This doesn't seem huge, but it is kind of a big step for me to just grab a plate and draw whatever comes to my mind. I am treating this like a sketchbook, which is where most of my favorite work I do turns up.
Project "Etch-a-Sketch" if you will ;]
I will have more new things up later, meanwhile here is a dump of stuff I should put up more periodically but instead I am just doing it now (click to make them bigger):
Das all!

I don't know how to make what I want to make.
I want to make things that express how I feel.
Duh, who doesn't?
But I want to do it in a very particular way and have many people see it, because I feel like if I create something with meaning to me that I can't just talk about, I want other people to see it so that they know.
Does that make sense?
I also want to make things using words that are powerful. Quotes that bang and pop and leave some stains while they fizzle out. I want to make images that do that for them. I can't come up with words--I can hardly dictate what I want to say in the first place! But I do feel like I could make imagery that explains how I feel using the words that are given to me by someone else. I might not be able to speak for myself, but I can provide my own color.

Warm Days!
Soooo many projects have been piling up in my classes that there has been very little time for me to work on much personal work (aside from the personal work I am supposed to be doing for Etching, but even that is an assignment now).
However, today was extremely nice out so I took the opportunity to visit the Greensboro Arboretum with some friends and just sit around for a few hours.
I didn't get any work done and really just doodled, but I like some of the results.
Also, there were tons of worms by the creek there. I love worms.
Anyway, I have so many other things to post I just have to sort them out first. More things up soon! Which just means I will update my archive? I think that makes sense.
